“The Theatre of Mixing Drinks”

Another brief from our long term friend and collaborator, Richard Moss of Rogue Projects. This one was for the new Whisky brand, Naked Malt and was destined to be a permanent fixture in the Alchemist Bar, Glasgow.

The machine needed to have a real presence but for the first time, this one was to be open to the public. That means a custom coin had to be minted, and many hours of cocktail development. As well as the whisky theatre at the top of the machine, and bespoke scents delivered as your cocktail is being prepared.

The Dispensary, Glasgow

We were brought into the project when the designs for the bar were already existing, so we started from a position of having to work with a strong existing aesthetic, and we wanted an object that really represented both the Naked Malt and the Alchemist.

True to form, Richard and I went about drawing in 1:1 scale, spending happy days at the studio laying it all out, and pulling in snippets of lighting ideas and finishes that we thought complemented both brands.

The result is a machine that is both extremely durable and easy to clean, but looks fantastic in the space.

And has a pouring setup that can be tweaked for a wide range of cocktails. As long as there’s three of them. That’s the magic number.
